Background and context

The circulatory system is the important organ system. It helps in the circulation of blood from the heart to the different parts of the body, cells and tissues.

This circulation of blood helps in transporting various nutrients, blood cells, gases like oxygen and carbon dioxide, and hormones to be circulated or transported to various cells of the body.

There are two types of circulatory system: Open and closed circulatory system.

The open circulatory system is found in molluscs and arthropods, in which blood flow through open spaces called lacunae.
