Background and context

Asexual reproduction is a type of reproduction that does not require the union of male and female gametes for the production of the offspring and hence, the plants has the ability to propagate on their own. 

This can occur either naturally or by artificial methods. The artificial methods of asexual reproduction include grafting, cutting, layering, and micropropagation. All these artificial methods of asexual reproduction are employed to create novel plants and also for better varieties with desired characteristics.
