Background and context

Exocytosis is the process through which chemicals are released from the cell. Endocytosis is the polar opposite of exocytosis. The active intake of materials inside the cell is known as endocytosis. The components are contained in a vesicle that fuses with the plasma membrane, allowing the compounds contained within to exit the cell.
