Background and context

In the passive transport method, the solutes move along the concentration gradient, high concentration to low concentration until equilibrium achieved. Energy is not utilized in this method. Facilitated diffusion uses transport proteins to move solutes in and out of the cell. Diffusion takes place from the region of higher concentration to lower concentration. It takes place in liquids and gases.
