Background and context

The movement of substances and molecules across the plasma membrane is important for the fluid balance in the cell. This is achieved by the cel transport mechanism, which selectively allows the plasma membrane to move substances in and out of the cell. Diffusion, active transport, and bulk transport are the major cell transport mechanisms.
