Background and context

Endothermic animals regulate their internal body temperature through metabolic processes, and can also exhibit temperature extremes. These animals can maintain activity levels even at cold temperatures. When it gets cold outside, they increase metabolic heat production to keep their body temperature constant. Because of this, the internal body temperature of the endotherm is more or less independent of the temperature of the environment.
