Background and context

Squamous epithelial cells are flat with oblong nuclei. Squamous epithelial cells are mainly of two types, simple and stratified. Being a single layer of cells, it is a very thin epithelium that minimally inhibits the proliferation process. Stratified epithelial surface cells are removed or sloughed off and the deeper layer of cells protects the underlying tissue from damage.
