Document Summary
Group: 2 or more members with a common relationship, act as individuals. Team: 2 or more members with mutual goals, act as a cohesive unit with shared responsibilities and accountabilities. Example: one"s family, members of a formula one racing team. Forming: often times, groups are confused and silent. This stage is characterized by the team"s uncertainty about their purpose, leadership, and structure. Team members often test the waters to see what types of behaviours are acceptable. Storming: stage where there may be power struggles and conflicts. Members accept the existence of the team. Members resist the constraints that the team imposes on individuality. Conflict over who will control the team. Sometimes, teams don"t move on from the storming change. Team assimilates a common set of expectations and norms. Team already knows and understands each other. High task performance is no longer a priority. Attention is directed toward wrapping up activities.
