Background and context

Nutrition is an important part of health and development. The processes of ingestion, digestion, absorption, assimilation and excretion are termed nutrition. Digestion is the complex process of turning the food a person eats into nutrients, which the body uses for energy, growth, and cell repair necessary for survival. The digestion process also involves making up the waste that is eliminated. It is mediated by enzymes secreted by the digestive organs and glands associated with it.
