Background and context

In angiosperms, the reproductive organ is a flower. Modified leaves called sporophylls are arranged around a central stalk to form flowers. 
 
A pollen grain is a small structure that contains a male reproductive cell of a plant. It plays a crucial role in the plant's fertilisation. Male cone-like or cone structures form these in gymnosperms. The anthers situated at the stamens' ends in flowers create these in angiosperms. It is the male gametophyte generation of seed-bearing plants.
