Document Summary

Activation: ligand binds based on shape and charge. Because must bind first to be able to have a stong. If look at amount of free messenger interaction and messenger bound, when we have higher affinity- will more quickly and easily be able to find the receptor. When we have a higher affinity, we are going to more quickly and more easily find the receptor that needs to be found. When we have low affinity, harder to find that receptor that it needs. Ex: the foods that people like (more affinity) were eaten more and quickly, the one with lower affinity didn"t get eaten. There was still specificity, they could still be eaten, just eat the ones we like more (higher affinity) When we have a receptor, we have a general ligand that can bind to it, but sometimes other ligands can bind to it too. Ex: the receptor can take in a blue ligand and a red ligand.
