Document Summary
All credit goes to freeman biology 6th edition 2017. Chapter 19: control of gene expression in eukaryotes. Differential gene expression- expression of different sets of genes in cells w/ same genome. Arranges cells into tissues, all cells contain same dna, coordinates activity. Chromatin- dna protein complex(histones), composing eukaryotes chromosomes(tight=heterochromatin, loose=euchromatin). Chromatin remodeling- structure of chromatin is changed allowing/inhibiting transcription/replication(chemical modification of histone protein/reshaping of chromatin by complexes w/ atp required). Rna processing- eukaryotes, primary rna transcript undergoes to become mature rna molecule(addition of 5" cap and poly(a)tail and splicing creating different combinations of exons. Mrna stability- different mrnas can have different lifespans/stabilities. Each chromosome has its own region in nucleus. Histones- positively charged(basic) protein w/ dna(negative charge) in chromatin. Nucleosomes- beads on a string like unit of eukaryotic chromatin, 200 nucleotides wrapped 2 times around 8 histones(octamer). Dna methylation- methyl(ch3) groups added to c nucleotides(cpg).
