Sociology 2172A/B Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Kraft Television Theatre, Product Placement, Media Consumption
Document Summary
In the early days ads sponsored entire programs, and usually made their brand names known e. g kraft. Movies require high attention and so they will pay attention to the products as well. Movies produce large audiences even if it is not super popular since tv is declining in audience members. Natural placements of products make it less irritated for consumers to view advertising rather than have it pop up. People argue that product placement is a form of stealth advertising, where they slip it so no one realizes the real nature of it being an ad. Some say it is not unethical but rather a very new and innovative form. Creating a brand association has helped with increased sale e. g. tobacco sauce and roswell. Charles lubbers believes that product placement will only become more relevant as an advertising strategy if other digital records become more prevalent.
