Document Summary

Eco lecture 6 *there is a new version to download. Implication water density has on temp, salinity, and vertical strati cation. One of the main way water bodies differ is in diff in the concentration of nutrients in places that have low, middle, and high nutrient availability. These yield differences in species abundance and nutrient dynamics. Little primary production hence fewer animal individual and populations consuming the pp. Mesotrophic are in b/w oligo and eutrophic- so moderate amount of pp and animal abundance. Eutrophic has high nutrient content leading to high pp leading to either sparse and unhealthy wildlife pop or vice verse. Oligo would hence have low phos and nitrogen, etc. Two causes of this trophic status variation are: natural causes. Like substrate ex. if substrate is granite at bottom of lake (very insoluble) hence wont provide a lot of nutrients when water runs off and any nutrients available in the system will be consumed quickly hence leaving none.
