Document Summary

6* - physical properties of aquatic and marine ecosystems. Chemical properties factors that vary within marine ecosystems. Swampy, nasty - lots of nutrients, very productive. Water gets lighter when you freezes, most dense at 4 degrees. Lake not constantly mixing, in spring yes, in summer no. Ambient temperature heats up, surface warms up, is less dense. Fall, temp decreases, mixing occurs again, no layer. During winter, ice rises to the top, bottom is 4 degrees. Levels of oxygen and salt will differ in the layers. Can have the oxygen in one section be very different than in a different section. Dangerous for massive oxygen differences due to major productivity in algal blooms. Plants don"t go to the bottom as much due to lack of sunlight. Veritcal distribution of primary production for a given species. Below that is compensation level (removal of oxygen) Euphotic zone depends on the lake, light intensity, trophic status.
