Document Summary

There is no clear de nition of what a species is. For a long time people were using morphology to try and explain what was going on. This de nition excludes the whole kingdom of prokaryotes meaning we can"t give a species name to bacteria -which is stupid. You also can"t try to get to dead animals to have sex hence you can"t go back in time with the biological species concept. If new species arise they appear by either anagenesis or cladogenesis. Anagenesis: new series makes an appearance and gradually changes over time; replacing it"s ancestor. Cladogenesis: a species can be isolated into two separate population and these two pops change so much over time that they can"t mate anymore hence there is a new species. Parapatric speciation have two species that are adjacent to each other and may still be breeding to produce young.
