Document Summary
Information system a group of components that work together to produce information from data: e. g: email, databases. Group members don"t take initiative and so output is low. Tentative: testing to discover what behaviors are acceptable to the group. Will we be able to do this: pairing (norming) : Members become tolerant of each other"s differences. Group concentrates on group maintenance and is socially orientated. Members still need the guidance of leaders but are less dependent on them: fight/flight (storming) Personal agendas emerge and conflict may occur. A pecking order" and group divisions arise. Challenges to leadership or an outside enemy occur (fight) Flight from the demands of the task. Task-oriented but not always well directed since no-one is taking responsibility but blaming everyone else: workgroup (performing) The ideal group, concentrated on the task. A balance between task orientation and group maintenance. The psychological needs of the group are integrated with the work of the group.
