How you experience grandparenthood, what kind of relationship you have with your grandchildren is influenced by the relationship that you had with your children all along. This all has a lot to do with whether or not you"ve had positive or negative relationships overtime with your own children. Positive relationships over time create for positive relationships overtime. *i would argue that both of these are mediated through the legacy of the parent/child relationship. *positive connections over time create opportunities for intergenerational connections, support, and generativity triangling, and splits. *negative connections over time increase the likelihood of cross-generational coalitions, Parents overtly or covertly block grandparents access to grandchild. Grandparents seek an alliance with the grandchildren your parents are the enemy! . Special issue grandparents raising children there are approximately 6 million children being raised by grandparents!
