Document Summary
Psyc 102 lecture 14 biological basis of behaviour. The study of parts and function of neurons. Terminal buttons (also called end uttons, terminal branches of axon, and synaptic knobs) Either a neuron completely fires or it does not fire. Chemicals held in the terminal buttons that travel in the synaptic gap between neurons. They excite the next cell into firing. They inhibit the next cell from firing. Take information from the sense to the brain. Takes the messages and send them elsewhere in the brain or on to efferent neurons. Take information from the brain to the rest of the body. Consists of our brain and spinal cord (all nerves housed within bone (the skull and vertebrae) Consists of all the other nerves in your body (all nerves not encased in bone) Motor cortex of the brain sends impulses to the somatic nervous system, which controls the muscle that allow us to move. Controls the automatic functions of our body.
