Rene spitz: compared orphanages (met physical needs, not emotional needs) with prison nurseries (contact with mother) Mary ainsworth: created the strange situation to measure infants" attachment to caregiver. Secure (60%): often upset when caregiver leaves, comforted by caregiver when reunited. Insecure avoidant (15-20%): may be upset when caregiver leaves, no reaction when caregiver returns. Insecure-anxious (15-20%): often upset when caregiver leaves, mixed reaction when caregiver returns. But how do we know what"s right.
