Document Summary

Michael sandel explains libertarianism and how they should exercise our individual rights, whereas utilitarianism they exercise the happiness of the majority. He explains how utilitarianism bypasses all these individual rights and in order for there to be justice there needs to be this, as long as there is no harm in other people"s way. He brings up how taxing the rich to give to the poor is a violation of these individual rights. Three things he had brought up were no paternalism; no morals legislation and no redistribution of income or wealth. For no paternalism, libertarians believe that there should be no laws to protect people from harming themselves. Wearing a seat belt and a helmet were mentioned. He says that this may save lives, but to respect the individual"s rights you have to let them do as they please with their lives. I disagree with this, i am glad that we have laws for this.
