Psychological disorder a psychological dysfunction within an individual that is associated with distress or impairment in functioning and a response that is not typical or culturally expected. Phobia psychological disorder characterized by marked and persistent fear of an object or situation. A breakdown in cognitive, emotional, behavioral functioning. E. g. go on date but is scared or have a fear all evening and just want to go home even though you have nothing to be afraid of. Behavior must be associated with distress but isn"t define by distress. Person is extremely upset in the criterion. Some disorders are also when a person is impulsive and elate in part of a manic episode. Impairment also occurs but is not entirely true. E. g. being so shy you avoid interaction even though you want to have friends then your social functioning is impaired. Important but not insufficient to determine if disorder/abnormal. E. g. abnormally short or abnormally tall does not mean disorder.
