Document Summary
Anxiety disorders are a category of disorders involving fear or nervousness that is excessive, irrational, and maladaptive. These disorders are very common and often occur with other disorders. People often cope with anxiety by limiting themselves to changing factors, and by developing rigid habits and ways of doing things so as to keep life predictable and under control. Anxiety occurs as a natural part of the fight or flight response. In our modern stressed society we activate anxiety repeatedly throughout our days and at this point, the system is no longer functional, but ends up being actually harmful to us. The constant wear and tear on the human body as a result of being continually prepped for action accumulates over time and causes a host of stress-related illnesses. What separates anxiety disorders from other forms of anxiety is a combination of an unjustifiable degree, duration, and source of anxiety.
