How do people learn norms: taking the role of the other mead, seeing yourself from the point of view of the people with whom you interact, according to mead, we interpret other peoples worlds and signals to understand how they see us, then we adjust our behavior to fit their expectations, during such symbolic interaction, we learn norms and adopt roles, people learn norms and roles actively and creatively. Role distancing: involves the impression that we are just going through the motions and that we lack serious commitment to a role: involves the process of just going through the motions , lacking serious commitment to a role, when people think a role they are playing is beneath them or embarrassing they want to give there peers the impressions that its not their true role. Most researchers believed until recently that 6 emotions were similar across expressions cultures: happiness, sadness, anger, disgust, fear, surprise.
