Individual test test administered to a single participant by a trained psychologist. In an individual test of intelligence, lots of professional training and skill is required to achieve an acceptable degree of standardization. Ie. the characteristics of the examiner (age, sex, race, attractiveness, social skills, communicational skills, etc. ) affect responses. Also the behaviour of the examiner may change in response to the subject"s behaviour (ie. if a child refuses to answer an easy question the examiner may change how he/she speaks in order to get an answer) Person must come to believe that the examiner is trustworthy and nonjudgmental and must view the task as interesting. Meant to classify [potentially] mentally retarded school children in the 1900"s. In 1905 it contained a set of 30 problems. Varied from extremely easy sensorimotor tasks to judgment and reasoning problems. Each subtest is made up of open ended questions and tasks that become progressively more difficult.
