Document Summary

Globalization increases both the quantities of goods, information, and people moving across national boundaries and the speed with which they do so. It is the connection of different parts of the world. Three processes characterize the evolution of transport systems: 1: diffusion, or the spread across space, articulation or the development of more ef cient spatial structures. Water transportation: inexpensive way of moving people and goods over long distances because it offers minimal resistance to movement and because waterways are available with no charge. Railway transportation: second least expensive form of transportation used when waterways are not available, topography = regional descriptions of local areas which would increase the cost of railway construction. Road transportation: accommodate a variety of vehicles and are less expensive to build then railways, construction of bridges reduces road distances. Air transportation: most expensive method, fastest method, and is favoured for small-bulk, and high valued products, airport construction and maintenance is funded by the government.
