What is a group? group: consists of 2 or more people interacting interdependently to achieve a common goal. Group membership is important because it: builds our beliefs, values, attitudes, and behaviours gives a sense that we can influence others. 1. sweat: high effort towards the group"s tasks. Adjourning: sometimes groups will disassemble when the task is accomplished or layoffs and downsizing occurs. Punctuated equilibrium punctuated equilibrium model of group development: a model that describes how groups with deadlines are affected by their first meetings and crucial midpoint transitions. Phase 1: where the first meeting is set; having the meetings to set the agenda; assumptions, approaches, and precedents are discussed. A radical progress should not be expected or challenged. Midpoint transition: the group"s approach changes based on their evaluation of their member"s performance, clear decisions and goals are re-analyzed, may be open to modification.
