Asked p"s to apportion how much the past, the present and the future should count in assessment of the self and others. 106 undergrads (77 female, 29 male) participated in exchange for extra credit in psych classes. In self condition = asked to consider how they would describe their ability as students. P"s were to assign %s to their past, present and future performance or abilities as student, w the sum of these %s being = to 100 self-assessment. Other condition = asked to indicate how much weight do you think is appropriate for john to give to each aspect when making his self-assessment. 50 undergrads (43 female, 7 male) completed questionnaire, also in exchange for psyc credits. Same materials as study 1a but instead asked how they would describe themselves more generally as ppl.
