Document Summary

Overview on dna mutation and repair (including images from the textbook for better explanation) Clone: population of cells that are genetically identical. No dna change for all of the cells that aggregate together. Genotype: specific set of genes an organism possesses. E. coli has 4,000 some genes, that is the genotype. Other bacterial strains have 2,000, that is it"s genotype. Mutation: interruption in open reading frame that can occur in dna. May or may not have an effect on phenotype of an organism. If the change is in the color gene, you can see an observable phenotype change. If it is a change in non essential genes that do not have observable characteristics, then you may not notice the mutation. Doesn"t mean there is no genetic change. But there is no observable phenotypic change. Most mutations are a change in the orf. Point mutation: deletion and insertion mutation at one point that changes the reading frame.
