Funcional characterisics of muscle: excitability (irritability): ability to receive and respond to a simulus , contracility: ability to shorten forcibly when adequately simulated , extensibility: ability to be stretched or extended , elasicity: ability to resume resing length ater being stretched . Ap along sarcolemma (membrane of the cell) + muscle contracion. Long, cylindrical cell with many oval nuclei (cell membrane is the sarcolemma) Sarcoplasm contains lots of glycogen & myoglobin: lots of myoibrils, extensive sarcoplasmic reiculum; t- tubules. ~80% of cell volume (100s to 1000s per cell) Myoilaments (acin, myosin, etc) arranged in a patern, forming end-to-end sarcomeres.
