When adapting a given text, it is essential that the adapter is thoughtful regarding context. "an adapted story always happens in a particular time and space in society" (hutcheon, 2013, p. 144). Different intended audiences, socio-political climates, and cultures can have a profound effect on the meaning of a given adaptation. Because of this, adapters must consider the context of time, place, culture, and reception practices when creating their adaptation (hutcheon, 2013, p. 144). Context can provide a meaningful subtext to a given adaptation, and strengthen the adaptation as a whole for generations that follow. Adapting a text to a different intended audience can generate different meanings. An example of this can be found with the lion king as an adaptation of hamlet. Shakespeare play, which means that its intended audience was a predominately adult european one. Hamlet was created in the 1600"s during the colonialism era and a eurocentric society.
