Disney"s the lion king does not function as an effective adaptation of shakespeare"s hamlet, simply because it should not be considered as an adaptation. Firstly, the lion king does not share any characters or settings with hamlet. Even the most radical of adaptations, like the simpson"s adaptation of hamlet, share the characters and setting of the original text. The lion king does not share many commonalities with hamlet, especially with regards to characters and place. This makes it difficult to justify the lion king as an adaptation, simply because it does not have a strong connection to the original text. The main argument for the lion king being an adaptation of hamlet is the shared plot points between the two films.
