ASSIGNMENT ONE - JOB SKILLS RESEARCH AND REFLECTION PAPER


Write a 5-7 page paper (double spaced, so between 1250- 1750 words) on the following topic: ”My Strengths and Weaknesses as an Employee”.

Use the Successful Work Place Attitudes & Behavior's and Focus on the Service: Successful Service Skills for Social Service Workers documents as a starting point, evaluate your strengths and weaknesses as an employee. What do you already do well What might you do well if you practiced it What do you dislike doing Are you willing to change your attitudes and behaviors' regarding the things you don’t like Why or why note What do you hope to get out of the first five years of your social service career

In addition to using the documents mentioned above, you should seek out other job skills resources you can use to self-evaluate. Some suggestions of where to start can be found under Job Readiness Skills Resources later in this booklet. Feel free you use any other website, books or articles you think are relevant. Be sure to include a bibliography if you do so.

You are required to create a topic for your poster. It should relate in some way to youth and social justice.

• You must research and present your topic to the class and submit the poster for your research assignment.
• Your presentation should be approximately 7 minutes in length. (No less than 5 minutes and no more than 10 minutes)
• Your presentation must not be a simple reading of your document but rather a summary of the main points. Your instructor may refuse your selection if someone else already selected the same topic (depending on number of students in group).
• Your documentation must include a bibliography of resources that you consulted in the research. You must use at least 3 reputable sources in your bibliography.
• In your opening remarks of your presentation, explain briefly why the topic you selected is of interest to you.

Note that specific topics are easier to research than vast general ones. In other words, a topic like “5 reasons youth don’t vote and what to do about it” is an easier topic to research and present than “youth and voting”. Your instructor can help you focus your ideas and scope of research.

PART ONE
Create a duo tang or binder that lists 10 mental health agencies in the community
that employee support workers or other paraprofessional social service workers.
The entry for each agency should include
 Agency or program name
 Addresses
 Phone and fax numbers
 Email address (if you can obtain one)
 Services offered
PART TWO
From the list of 10 agencies you completed in part one, select at least four
agencies that are of special interest to you. Include extra information (beyond
what you included for the other 6) on each of the 4 you selected: This additional
information should include:
 Mission statement
 Services offered
 Pamphlet of the agency
 Intake procedure
 Contact person (if you can obtain one)
 Other pertinent information
