seems like a sociopath, like he does such heartless acts just because he enjoys the feeling of it, but upon closer reading, the story suggest that he is doing this just because he is desperate for his family's attention, in fact, the whole "night drive" situation did not even happen and are all just an illusion that's created in his head due to mental illness. By exposing himself to such a dangerous and morally incorrect train of thoughts-cven when deep inside, he knows that what he wants to do is wrong-the father hopes to gain attention from his close ones, who often take him for granted.
