Background and context

The problem of weeds and the environmental effect of insecticides was solved with the discovery of genetically engineered plants. The simple concept of Mendelian genetics is used to solve this problem by releasing genetically engineered plants. A particular gene against the weed is selected and incorporated within the plant genome. The transformation technique is commonly used here as Agrobacterium tumefaciens. The gene of interest is incorporated within the bacterium and using natural transduction the plant receives the gene that targets the weed. Hence no longer does the weed show interest in the host. This mechanism was strongly recommended in crop production.
