The metallic nature of a metal determines its amount of reactivity. It drops from left to right throughout a period in the periodic table and increases down the group in the periodic table.
S (Sulfur) and As (Arsenic) are both found on the right side of the periodic table, however As is found below S. The more metallic element in the pair is the more metallic element in the periodic table because the metallic character decreases as we advance from bottom to top.
The tendency to lose electrons decreases as the effective nuclear charge acting on the valence shell electrons increases with time. As a result, the metallic character decreases over time while increasing down a group.
