Bring your own device or BYOD is great for some companies. I don't think every business needs to implement it or should implement it. There are inherent security risks when employees use their own devices for work related matters. They are not always on a secure network and usually have personal e-mail accounts on them as well as internet searches that may not be suitable or appropriate for business. Then there are very small companies that choose to save some money and have employees use their own device. If there are no real security threats and mainly used for email this will probably work out ok for everyone. In my current field it is just easier to use my own device even though we don't have a written policy regarding it.
