General Biology Potato (catalase) reaction with hydrogen peroxide - Post Lab Questions: (there was not a prelab or decent explanation prior to the lab or given)

1. Added pototo to hydrogen peroxide and watched react until reaction stopped. If same piece of potato was put in new container of hydroge peroxide would the same reaction occur.

- I'm thinking yes because the enzymes in the potato will break down the new vial of hydrogen peroxide into oxygen and water.

2. Added potator to hydrogen peroxide and watched reaction until reaction stopped. If added to piece of potato to same container of hydrogen peroxide would the same reaction occur.

- I'm thinking no because all the hydengen peroxide was already turned into water and oxygen.

3. If you added detergent to the normal reaction would the rate of the reaction go up or down?

- I'm thinking the reaction rate go up because you are adding another enzyme that will speed up the reaction even more

4. Why does adding hydroxylamine decrease the rate of the reaction?

- I'm thinking the rate is decreased because hydroxylamine is an inhibitor to catalase and inhibits the function of the enzyme to increase reaction rate and it can not lower the activation energy
