This disease damages the motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord. Affecting activities like breathing, walking, running, lifting. Which are controlled by the neuromuscular system. The muscles in motor neuron and spinal cord shrink and disappear. Gradually the body becomes paralyzed. In some cases, the part of the brain which allows think, remember and learn is also affected by the disease. ALS does not affect muscles in internal organs such as your heart, bladder, and digestive tract.
