Case Study

Sarah is a typical senior in high school with a few exceptions. She lives on her own, single, and is 7 weeks pregnant. She has been through much in her life. At one time adopted but then given back to foster care where she was abused. After gaining her emancipation, she works 30 hours a week as a waitress. Sarah is a smart young lady with a bright future in front of her. With her 4.0 GPA and in the top 10% of her class, she has earned a full-ride scholarship to an undergraduate pre-med program at a very prestigious university.

Sarah is all alone. The father of her future child disappeared soon after she told him she was pregnant and she has no family to lean on. As you can imagine, she is scared. She has no insurance and doesn’t want to be pregnant nor a mother at this stage in her young life. With her experience in the adoption system, she rejects that as an option. While at the hospital where she has always received medical care, her only request if for an abortion. Sarah is your patient.

Using critical thought, research and respond to the question below with a minimum of 5-8 sentences.

1)Let’s assume you work for a faith-based health care system that rejects the elective abortion option. What should be done for Sarah and by whom? Remember that she is your patient.
