Vision

You are testing a variety of vision altering drugs by monitoring the electrical and chemical activity within a photorecptor and their associated bipolar and gaglion cells. Upon light stimulation you can record the graded ptentioal within the bipolar cell and the graded and action potential within the ganglion cells. You can also monitor the activation and conversion of all of the critical molecules in the light transduction pathway= this is normal activity. Upon the addition of your drugs you observe the following:

A.) Upon application of drug "Bazinga" to your preparation, in the absence of any light, you observe activity in the bipolar and ganglion cells, even though cGMP-PDE is still inactive. Please give as many hypotheses and their explinations as to how "Bazinga" was able to cause this effect.

B.)Upon application of drug "PSY" to your preparation and stimulated with normal levels of light, your discover that the level of neural activity in the rod's bipolar and ganglion cells are reduced significantly, while the neuronal activity in the cone's bipolar and ganglion cell is zero. Please give as many hypotheses and their explinations in detail as to how compound "PSY" caused its effects.
