3) Toxoplasma gondii are only able to sexually reproduce in felines. Suppose a population of T. gondii had a mutation that made it possible to reproduce in canids, but with no associated cost to it’s ability to reproduce in felines.

(a) What would happen? (ie. Would this mutation improve the fitness of T. gondii? What selection might this mutation experience?)

(b) What would happen if a mutation evolved that allowed T. gondii to reproduce in one of the intermediate host species?
