Document Summary
Study of growth and change over the lifespan. Development proceeds through a series of stages that represent qualitative changes in functioning: cognitive, moral, and psychosocial development. Observed that children"s thinking is qualitatively different in different ages. No language and the world is understood experientially. Development of motor skills, ex- learning to walk. Reasoning is still in terms of perceptual experience. Abstracting and generalizing required for conceptual thinking still not present. Failing to understand that alternate alterations in appearance or arrangement do not alter quantity or number. Reasoning that focuses on a single dimension to the exclusion of other dimensions. Looking at the length of the rows but not the spaces between the spots. Not taking into account the rearrangement of objects in rows. Has difficulty arranging photos to show stages of a change process. Ex- children have hard time understanding that a teacher is a parent of a child too. Objects which they cannot see does not make sense.
