Document Summary
Love motivates imprinting (and lots of other things) There is a critical period for developing an attachment to their mother. Ducks follow their mother right after birth. Ducks have a critical period in the first month of life; form a bond with anything that moves in their environment. Food was put in a fake monkey. Monkey became attached to stuffed animal in the cage; contact comfort-- babies need love and care. Monkeys didn"t turn out right; shows that bond with mother isn"t based off food. When these monkeys had babies, they didn"t want anything to do with them since they didn"t have mother love as a baby. Infant rats were born to the smell of lemon; later in life the rats were attracted to rats that smelled like lemon. Animals are born with certain fascinations for certain things; some things are innate (nature vs nurture question) The innate fascinations guides learning, so motivation is a mix of nature and nurture.
