Toddler- shame and doubt- growing demand placed upon kids by caregivers that they regulate their emotions and anxiety. The more a child is competence the more they develop a sense of purpose. (compulsion + thinking about what how can"t do and anticipating how hard it will be which inhibits coping and operates against joy. Theres an insistence that kids regulate their emotion and learn about what is appropriate and inappropriate. The child is able to take the iniative. Be self suffieicent, be self regulated, learn right from wrong. What is being communicated by the use of the term initiative? . Have to be competence with regulating your emptions. Guilt is when you feel like you have failed to live up to your own internalized expectations for behavior. When you are failing to act by the way you think you should act. Shame- is a more serious form of embarrassed. Youre only embarrassed when there is an audience.
