Document Summary

First co2 found when breaking down glucose was in pyruvate dehydrogenase. Pyruvate dehydrogenase also produced one of electron carriers. Getting energy out of glucose a little at a time. Electron transport chain - inner mitochondrial matrix. Nadh to complex i q complex iii cytochrome c complex iv. Purpose of electron transport chain is to pump protons. Coupling favorable redox reactions to unfavorable reaction of transporting proton across membrane. Inner mitochondrial matrix - one of the most impermeable membranes. Electrons are smuggled in on another molecule. Oxaloacetate converted to malate (nadh is consumed) transporter to carry malate converted back to oxaloacetate convert it to aspartate transport to carry aspartate back out of mitochondria converted back to oxaloacetate. Transfer amine group from glutamate onto oxaloacetate to form aspartate. Transfer malate with alpha-ketoglutarate to balance out. Nad+/nadh are not transported in and out of the mitochondria. Most active in liver, kidney, and heart. All reactions already existed put together in cycle.
