Priming studies: stereotypical media primes people to use stereotypes in their evaluations of people, counter-stereotypical media primes different evaluations. Whites are more likely to respond with positive judgments about race and sympathy toward discriminatory practices. Interpersonal contact is an effective way to reduce rejudice between group members. Necessary characteristics of the contact include: low-anxiety situation, civil interaction, equal status among group members, common goals.
