Why nfp: evidence-based model, specially trained nurses, home visits, provides low-income moms a more comfortable lifestyle, improves pregnancy outcomes. Ethnicity/race of nfp moms: 63% non-hispanic/latina, 28% hispanic/latina, 10% no response, 35% white, 29% african american, 3% native american, 1% asian, 7% multicultural/other, 25% no response. Examples: good nutrition, eliminating drugs and alcohol, exercise while pregnant: improve child health and development, educate parents provide responsible care. Example: teach them basic baby health, disciplinary skills, baby- safe homes: improve economic self-sufficiency of the family. Example: developing goals for the future, helping them find a job or finish high school, future family planning (birth control) Program structure: highly rained nurses serve as home visitors.
