Document Summary

When pre-existing rock (protolith) undergoes solid-state change to form a new rock in response to changes in its environment. How to make a metamorphic rock: new bonds with other atoms. Heating causes the atoms to break bonds with their neighbors and form. Pressure causes the atoms to pack more closely together. Metamorphism also happens due to shear stress - deformation from force applied in one direction and interactions with very hot water. Physical, chemical, and biological processes that occur during transformation sediment into sedimentary rock, but before metamorphism can happen. Caused by : interaction with fluids, changes in temperature and pressure. Occurs in conditions of: low temperature and low pressure during burial. Happens when temperatures (250-800 degrees celsius) are too hot for diogenis, but too cool to melt the rock, or when the rock is subject to enough pressure to deform it. Places where rocks are cooked and/or squeezed.
