Connect/bind: bind tissues together and to other parts of the body. Support: bone and cartilage tissues support the weight of the body. Protection: bone tissues protect organs, fat tissues provide shock absorption. Transport: blood is a fluid connective tissue that is the main transport medium. Located deep to epidermis, in membranes lining body cavities and hollow organs. Avascular - mechanical stress will not result in bleeding. Collagen is the predominant fibre - found in tough tissue to resist tension and force. Haphazard arrangement - resist tension in all three planes. Found in areas that need resistance to tension (dermis of skin, around joints) Parallel arrangement - resist tension in only one plane (forces in the direction of fibres)
